I spoke with Dr. Rick about the clinical trials. It seems Dr. Harry did not have it quite right.
Well, he was right about the Estriol trial. Everyone will get Copaxone, and half of the people will also get Estriol. This study is associated with very low risks. Estriol has been used by hundreds of thousands of women and has side effects similar to birth control. The down sides to this study are just the down sides of Copaxone: injection site reactions and tissue hardening or breakdown.
The daclizumab study is also half and half. Half of the participants will get Avonex, and half will get daclizumab.
Both are double blind, meaning that the participants and the treating doctor do not know who is taking which medication.
And both of them are for about two years, possibly three. With all medical care included. Yes, that means the neurologist visits, any blood tests required, the MRIs, and the astronomically expensive drugs Copaxone and Avonex.
Wow!
I am leaning toward the daclizumab study.
