Sitting Is Hard

I was sort of OK today, but things got worse in the afternoon. Really bad in the evening. Probably because I was sitting a lot.

Sensory:
-Pins and needles: 5, big problems when sitting
-Tingles: 4, left leg, some in left fingertip (pointer finger)
-Paresthesias (burning): 1, front of thigh but now I forget which one
-Paresthesias (other): 1, electricity/prickling upper left sciatic nerve
-Numbness: 5, big problems when sitting, minor otherwise
-Vision: 2, kind of blurry, distracting floaters
-Nerve pain: 5, left leg

Motor:
-Gait: 5, which is because I tried to wear heels. Small heels--maybe an inch or less. Oh my goodness. Painful pins and needles, and I ended up walking laboriously. But I was walking kind of slowly before that. My right leg is stiff.
-Sore muscles: 1
-Fine motor: 3, I had trouble tying things
-Weak muscles: 5
-Spasticity: 2, mostly gastrocs

Cognitive:
-Language processing: 0
-Memory: 0
-Attention: 0
-Confusion: 1

General:
-Fatigue: 5, but I did a lot
-Balance: 2
-Sleep: 2, eight hours
-Bladder: 4, little leaks six times today

Grieving: I got teary-eyed tonight in the temple when I had difficulty tying things. I could not believe how much harder it was than a month ago. But I did not want to cry at that moment, so I really sucked it in. Almost lost it again--tears did spill. However, I did not really break down. That was what I was trying to avoid. I was afraid that if I began, I would not stop.

Good Day Again

I had another good day today. I guess a good day is when I'm not totally exhausted and my pain isn't severe.

Sensory:
-Pins and needles: 2
-Tingles: 1, right leg down outside/back of calf. And left forearm (underneath).
-Paresthesias (burning): 2, feet as usual, this time also on the medial part of my heel/ankle
-Paresthesias (other): 2
-Numbness: 2, the usual. Kind of wondering about the outside /back of my right calf--same area as the tingles. Also pins and needles there.
-Vision: 1, lots of floaters today! Distracting sometimes, but mostly I could ignore them.
-Nerve pain: 1

Motor:
-Gait: 4, stumbling, catching my left toe, having some trouble walking straight. And sometimes very slow! Haha, like my legs were just not getting the message to move FORWARD.
-Sore muscles: 3, calves, quads--worse when I wake up (very stiff) and in the evening (very tired).
-Fine motor: 3, dropping everything. I don't think it's a hand strength issue. Just clumsy hands.
-Weak muscles: 4, still having trouble with stairs, walking through a parking lot, etc.
-Spasticity: 2, most of the day it was just my right calf (although now all four of the usual areas)

Cognitive:
-Language processing: 1
-Memory: 3
-Attention: 0
-Confusion: 2

General:
-Fatigue: 4
-Balance: 3
-Sleep: 1--more than eight hours! I think it was good sleep, too. I do not think I had bad dreams (or at least not terrible ones).
-Bladder: 2

Sort of Rough Day But Happy

Sensory:
-Pins and needles: 3--right ankle/foot, left calf (outside)/ankle, left butt/thigh--sciatic nerve
-Tingles: 6--going up my some of my fingers and driving me CRAZY. Right thumb (middle), index (inside), pinky (outside), lateral side of hand (running down from pinky). Left pinky (outside), lateral side of hand, lateral half of palm. It started happening when I tried to cross stitch and has continued. And some in my left thigh.
-Paresthesias: 4, and I noticed the position of my leg can make it worse. It was 1-2 for much of today. Gabapentin increase is helping! I'm up to 1500 mg/day; tomorrow I will be on the full 1800 mg dose.
-Numbness: 2, my feet keep falling asleep easily. I guess that's numbness
-Vision: 2--probably a little worse from cross stitching

Motor:
-Gait: 3, but 5 on hardwood floors. Wow, that surprised me. I was at my bishop's house for conference, and they have wood floors in part of their home. It was much harder for me to walk on. Counting my blessings that my home has carpet (even though I wished for hardwood when I bought it--guess I got what was good for me rather than what I wanted).
-Sore muscles: 4 most of the day except for some 7 cramps in my left calf
-Fine motor: 4, cross stitching was hard
-Weak muscles: 4

Cognitive:
-Language processing: 1
-Memory: 1
-Attention: 0
-Confusion: 1

General:
-Fatigue: 6--I really wanted to sleep this afternoon, but I couldn't, because I was at the bishop's house. I probably wouldn't have even if I had been home. But wanted to. I felt worn out, and I don't think I did much. Hung out on the couch all morning except taking a shower and doing makeup and hair. Went to the bishop's house to sit and watch conference. I did play a board game that required brain power (and I won), and I think that wore me out. I was tired after that. Sat around and watched conference. Played Rock Band. Of course that really wore me out!
-Balance: 4
-Sleep: 3, got 8 hours
-Bladder: 3 I guess, still weak stream, and things just do not feel right
-Anxiety: 0
-Vertigo: 0, yeah!

Yesterday

Let's see if I remember...

I think I slept okay. Woke up cold a few times (our AC settings are unpredictable). Worked all day then went to Target then to one store in the mall then to the grocery store. I was having a lot of trouble walking after work. It seems like my body is DONE by 3:00 and I decline swiftly after that.

Sensory problems:
-Pins and needles: 2, just some in my right foot
-Hypersensitivity: 2 :)
-Paresthesias: 2, a few "something is crawling on me!" moments on my left leg, some random weird itches on my right thigh
-Numbness (why didn't I have this before?): Right outside heel. My fingertips are partially numb--yucky feeling.
Motor problems:
-Gait: 5--dragging my right foot, tripping myself, uneven gait
-Sore muscles: 3 (realized that this might be because I've been taking ibuprofen for my back pain since Sunday)
-Fine motor: 1
-Weak muscles: 5

Cognitive problems:
-Language processing: 3--wow, several times I typed the wrong word in emails and even a whole sentence that made no sense. Scary. Proofreading is critical for me.
-Memory: 2

General problems:
-Fatigue: 6
-Balance: 2

I found out that gabapentin loses potency if you cut the pills and don't take them within a day or so. I've been cutting more than a week's worth! It's a pain to cut them every day, but I will.

5:00 am? This really couldn't wait?

It's 5:30 in the morning. I got up at 5:00 because my back is (present tense) killing me. It's not a new symptom, though, just my period. This is not good, because I know the way my body works. I took ibuprofen ten minutes ago, so around 6:00 I'll have little enough pain that I can sleep again. But I have to get up at 7:00. Or I could just stay awake, but then I'll be ready to crash by 9:00, which is when church starts. Basically, I can't win. For now I'm bored, tired, and in pain. Not a great start to the day.

OK, I'm done whining. Let's review yesterday:
-Plenty of sleep.
-No working... only activity was going to the store in the morning for my friend to look at camcorders. I planned to go to the pharmacy but got sick and couldn't. Diarrhea. Boo.
-Sat on my butt all afternoon and evening researching camcorders online with my friend. Do you know that there are 600 million camcorders on the market? That's a fact.

Today I'm thinking a rating scale 1-10 is the way to go.

Sensory problems:
-Pins and needles: 2, just some in my right leg and foot
-Hypersensitivity: 2 :)
-Paresthesias: 2, just a few "something is crawling on me!" moments

Motor problems:
-Gait: 3
-Sore muscles: 4
-Fine motor: 1
-Weak muscles: 5

Cognitive problems:
-Language processing: 1
-Memory: 1

General problems:
-Fatigue: 4
-Balance: 1

As you can see, I had a great day yesterday! Of course, I didn't do much. Whatever.

So far today, I have pins and needles in my foot and leg. That's not good if it's this noticeable so early in the day, because it only gets worse. I was having balance issues when I got up and went downstairs just now to take ibuprofen. I wonder if that's because it was so dark. I wonder how much I'm relying on vision for balance.

Ah, that's it for now. Hm, 5:53 and my back is feeling better, right on schedule. I'm getting tiiiiiired. Maybe I'll try to take an hour's nap before I have to get ready for church. Oh, yeah, feeling it in my bones now.

Shoot Me Now

I'm so weak and hypersensitive! Yeah, going out and doing more things when I'm tired did not help.

I'm walking funny. I walk like a stroke victim, with one leg not bending right or something.

I'm ready to fall asleep. But it's too late for a nap and too early to go to bed.

I'm miserable.

The Case of the Cramping Quads

I feel like I have the flu. You know the sickly, weak, achy, dizzy-when-I stand feeling. Unfortunately, I do not have the flu--I wish that were all it is. It's my [Diagnosis Here Please].

I'm moving and thinking in slow motion. My body is very heavy.

I forgot to write yesterday that I went to Target briefly during one of my ups (that would be between the downs), and my quads kept cramping, particularly the right. It was quite painful. Then I realized... It was the way I was walking! I was rolling up on the balls of my feet or something, and I was tensing my quads. I tried to walk in a more relaxed way, and that helped somewhat. It was like my center of gravity was off.

Ugh, my foot has the pins and needles big time.

Good and Bad

Yes, another post from me today. It's definitely feast or famine around here.

After having a nasty morning and not being able to do much, I perked up around 12:30. I've been working on unpacking (still!). So glad to be able to get up and do stuff.

I'm having difficulty holding onto my thoughts today.

And coordination is difficult. I stumble if I don't walk consciously. And I bang toes, shins, and knees often.

I think it's weird that I can have a bad morning and then begin to do better for no apparent reason. Maybe from resting during the morning? Rest does seem to help.

Things Go Downhill for No Apparent Reason

After blogging yesterday, I should have knocked on wood!

About an hour after I got home, I began feeling dizzy. Two hours after I'd been home, I was having difficulty focusing my eyes. They kept jumping around. I was trying to type something, and I was determined to finish it, whether my eyes and arms (which were becoming sore and weak) wanted to cooperate or not. It took me forever, but I did.

By 9:00 pm, I was not able to focus my eyes at all, and I couldn't walk a straight line. My balance was poor, and I was just so dizzy. I felt like the room was spinning. I ended up going to bed early.

I woke up feeling the "stretchy" feeling in my legs--which makes me walk on the balls of my feet unless I actively try not to. When I feel like that, not walking on the balls of my feet is uncomfortable. I also felt weak and shaky, especially my legs.

At church, I was moving slowly. I sat on the pew and had difficulty keeping my head raised to look at the speaker. My limbs felt encased in concrete. I couldn't cross my legs, because it took too much effort to keep one leg on the other.

I was grieved to find that I could not sing more than two verses of a song. I felt tired and light-headed. Poor breath support, I think. That was so disappointing, and it happened on every hymn throughout church. I love singing.

I began to feel the pins and needles tingles in my right lower leg and both feet. Mostly I just felt tired. And something odd... I felt like my awareness of my legs waxed and waned. There were periods of time where I didn't feel like I had legs, although intellectually I knew they were there. I could see them. But I couldn't feel them. It wasn't a matter of numbness, although the pins and needles made them borderline numb. I think it was compromised proprioception. So I would either feel pins and needles (which were mild) or feel like my legs were not there.

I also felt pins and needles up the back left side of my scalp a few times.

My legs and arms were both weak.

I dared to give an answer in Gospel Doctrine, which I sort of regretted. The teacher asked me a follow-up question. My brain wasn't processing and organizing well, but I tried to give an answer that made sense or was at least on topic. Whatever.

I shared an example in Relief Society, which turned out well. I had had time to consider it before raising my hand, so I was able to make a meaningful contribution. And no follow-up questions.. whew. Also, it was on a familiar topic, illustrating the teacher's point by giving an example of something that had happened to me. Text to self connection, so to speak--the easiest kind. The language and concepts were less remote and complex than in Gospel Doctrine. The follow-up question that I had been asked in that class was, "How did the atonement give Christ the enabling power of grace?" That's a hard question even on a good day!

And now? I'm having difficulty walking. My legs are too weak. They feel sore, like I had a major workout. That makes no sense, because I sat on my butt all day yesterday and this morning! I'm trying to make connections, but it's hard to find patterns. Could it be the short time that I was out in the heat yesterday?

Heat definitely has an impact. I've had my laptop on my lap while writing this post, and now my quads are cramping.
